Age UK Notts and Capital One working together to support Nottinghamshire’s isolated older people

25/03/2020 by Digital Media

Age UK Notts knows that a lot of older people will need additional support over the next few weeks and developing our welfare service has been our top priority. We know we can’t do this alone.

We’ve been overwhelmed by hundreds of offers of help from individuals, community groups and businesses alike and we’re grateful for every one of them. People need practical help as well as someone to rely on during this challenging period of isolation.

Capital One, a long standing supporter of Age UK Notts, has made one such offer. The UK credit card provider will donate £20,000 to help us to support people in need of food packages and medication collections.

Capital One will also enable their staff to help us with our telephone welfare support service. This important programme enables us to make daily welfare phone calls to older people to ensure they are safe and well, and to provide a reassuring listening ear at these difficult times.

Capital One are proud supporters of community organisations, and we are thrilled at their generous gesture. It will make a significant contribution to helping us reach people in need as quickly as possible.

Dave Richards, Head of Corporate Responsibility, Capital One UK said:“We’re delighted our staff will be able to support a really important cause and help those older people within Nottinghamshire who may be feeling lonely through this challenging time. Age UK Notts is a dedicated organisation performing vital work, and we’re proud to partner with them.”

Age UK Notts will be launching its welfare package today, supported by staff and volunteers. It’s aimed primarily at those older people who have no-one else to rely on and will include:

•               Shopping for essential items

•               Prescription collection

•               Daily support call to help maintain social contact

Anyone who wants to volunteer to support local older people should contact 0115 8440011 or email [email protected]
