Geoff Jones and his wife, Sue were both born and raised in West Bridgford and have an amazing anniversary which isn’t quite what you’d think.
On the 3rd February 1994, they purchased a 1933 Morris Ten, with the couple being the seventh owner of this remarkable vehicle. It’s amazing to think they’ve had this car for 30 years!
Many would think a car of such age to be a show piece, tucked away in a garage and only to be seen on the rarest of occasions… However this isn’t the case with this magnificent Morris Ten.
Geoff and Sue use the car on every possible opportunity, and is out of their garage at least 4 times a week taking them to the local shops. The only time it may get a ‘day off’ is when the weather isn’t so favourable.
Many of you may see this car regularly around your local roads, but we should count ourselves lucky that it’s still around today as in 1980, it was sold to be scrapped for £50 and was used to house chickens.
Soon after this, it was sold for £250 and after 6 years of intensive restoration the car was returned to it’s former glory.
You may also know Geoff or Sue from years gone by, as they’ve both attended local schools, South County School on Exchange Road and also Musters Road Secondary School.
The pair married at St Giles Church on August 27th 1960. They have two children, Stuart and Philip.
Sue worked at Shentals Grocery shop on Central Avenue for many years, which is where Vision Express is located today.
Geoff did his National Service between 1957-59. He returned to West Bridgford and worked at Avenue Garage (on Central Avenue) before opening his own Driving School in 1965. After 12 years, Geoff then became a Driving Examiner and retired from the Test Centre on Musters Road aged 56.
During Geoff’s time as a Driving Instructor, he advertised in the local newspaper and his advert for the business is shown bottom left.
He also recalled two men (one of which is photographed below), who hired him and his car on the day of their 17th birthday and passed their driving test in the very same afternoon!
The couple have no intentions of changing their daily routines quite yet, so if you see them out and about, don’t be scared to give them a wave!
