Independent charity Emmanuel House Support Centre in Hockley has received £1,100 worth of provisions for its Nottingham Night Shelter thanks to a recent donation from Nottingham-based education platform THRIVE Learning.
Having seen the charity’s donation drive on Facebook, THRIVE Learning purchased ten of every multi-pack item on the shelter’s Amazon Wishlist.
Denis Tully, CEO at Emmanuel House Support Centre, said: “We can’t thank Sean, Emma and the team enough for the incredibly generous donation of our most-needed food and drink, such as tea, coffee and breakfast items. They purchased the entire quota of our list and it arrived within days of our initial request.
“Whilst we are facing uncertainty and additional strain from the current circumstances, our support and advice for homeless, vulnerable and isolated adults continues to help those in need. Providing our shelter guests with food and a hot drink when they arrive at the hotel is an incredibly important step in the journey to getting the support they need. Our aim is to get everyone a home of their own, regardless of who they are or where they come from.”
Emma Layton, Chief Operating Officer at THRIVE Learning, said: “We forget how lucky we are at times, so it’s really important during this difficult period to give back where we can. Covid has brought a more personal focus to homelessness and at THRIVE we’re delighted to support the great work Emmanuel House and the night shelter are doing.”
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Nottingham Night Shelter moved into a hotel on 27th March 2020. It has been providing much-needed support during a period of crisis and has enabled rough sleepers to self-isolate in individual rooms.
Since the lockdown, the shelter has enabled 4,066 nights’ protection for a total of 164 guests and rough sleepers*, providing them with shelter, food, support and en-suite facilities.
As a result of the quality of care from all involved, 89 people have moved on from the hotel*. They are now in privately rented, hostel, temporary or supported accommodation and some have re-connected with friends and family. The Nottingham Night Shelter has been working in conjunction with local councils and agencies and has received referrals from a variety of sources.
With the help of other voluntary sector organisations, the shelter is providing its guests with food, drinks and snacks. It is currently in need of specific food and drink donations:
· Long-life milk
· Cordial
· Porridge pots
· Yoghurts
· Fruit tea
· Small fruit juice cartons
· Granulated sugar
· Wooden cutlery
· Anti-bac wipes
· Pens and notepads
· Disposable aprons & gloves
· Fabric face masks
The shelter has set up an Amazon Wishlist page for these food and drink items, which will be delivered directly to the shelter. Alternatively, please contact Rosie at [email protected] to arrange your own delivery.
