Much-loved family-owned theme park Sundown Adventureland will re-open its gates on Saturday 4 July, as new lock-down rules announced by the Prime Minister last week, allow hospitality and leisure businesses to welcome back their visitors.
The fairytale-themed park based in Retford, Nottinghamshire closed on 20 March, missing out on the vital Easter opening period, but the park is now ready to treat its summer visitors to all the fun of the fair as its rides and attractions re-open.
“Like a lot of leisure-based businesses, it has been a hard period for us. Sundown was opened by my mother Audrey 52 years ago and has been managed by the family ever since. My mum is now 91 and still actively involved in running Sundown. She has never had to deal with anything like this in all those years, so it has been really hard for her to see the park closed,” said owner and park director Gaynor Corr.
“But looking positively, we can’t wait to welcome back families to the park. Everyone is ready for some fun after being isolated for so long and we are looking forward to seeing some happy, smiley little faces again.”
Sundown Adventureland will be open from Saturday 4 July but it will be necessary for all visitors to book online before arriving, so that numbers can be controlled. The park is also asking customers, where possible to pay by card rather than cash and as an extra precaution, will be asking people for permission to take their temperature before they are allowed in.
“We have obviously taken all the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our guests so that they can hopefully relax and enjoy time together as a family, without any worry,” said Gaynor.
Whilst all outdoor areas, rides and attractions will be open to guests, the government have not given the go-ahead to open indoor play areas so these will remain closed until further announcements are made.
“We are lucky at Sundown, in that we have so much for families and children to enjoy, which is outside. Our picnic areas will be open, social distancing measures will be in place and our cafes will have a new food ordering system to make ordering and collection as easy and as risk-free as possible.
“We have followed the government advice to the letter and have put in all the precautions we can to enable families to enjoy what Sundown has to offer,” said Gaynor.
