Gamston Councillors secure life-saving defibrillator at community hall

11/06/2020 by Digital Media

Gamston Councillors for Rushcliffe Borough Council have secured the purchase of a life-saving defibrillator at Gamston Community Hall.

Ward Councillor for Gamston North Jonathan Wheeler and Ward Councillor for Gamston South Davinder Virdi both used their designated Community Support Scheme Grants to pay for the unit which can now provide life-saving support to residents and visitors in the area.

The defibrillator is in a prime location next to Morrisons supermarket that receives thousands of visitors each week and handily placed for the hall which will continue to host community events once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

A defibrillator gives a high energy electric shock to the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest, to kickstart their heart back to its normal rhythm.

They have been known to save countless lives across the UK, bridging a vital gap before emergency services arrive.

Cllr Wheeler said: “Quite simply, defibrillators can help save lives, and I hope our community feels safer knowing this is here and can be used by anyone who is in need.

“We are now well covered in our respective wards 24/7 defibrillators, with one on the Village Hall and another in Holme Pierrepont, one at the Edwalton Post Office and another is due to be installed on Bassingfield.”

Cllr Virdi added: “The safety of our community is paramount and although we hope the defibrillator doesn’t need to be used, the fact it’s there for the community and everyone using the hall, is I hope reassuring to all.”

The Community Support Grant Scheme aims to reach out to deserving projects across the Borough with Ward Councillors choosing where funding is needed for vital initiatives in their neighbourhoods.
