Changes to concessionary travel

09/06/2020 by Digital Media

Temporary changes to allow concessionary bus pass holders to travel free of charge before 9.30am will come to an end on Monday 15 June.

From this date holders of the pass will still be able to travel for free all day at the weekend but only after 9.30am on weekdays.

Councillor John Cottee, Chairman of Communities and Place Committee, for Nottinghamshire County Council  said:

“As children go back to school and more people are returning to work, the demand for bus services early in the morning is steadily increasing.

“We need to make sure that we can meet this demand while protecting vulnerable members of our community and ensuring social distancing is in place.

“The temporary changes to the concessionary pass were put in place at the start of the pandemic so that pass holders could take advantage of their exclusive access to some supermarkets during the first hour after opening. However, many supermarkets are now open for longer, food and other goods are more readily available, and more shops are set to open from next week as the lockdown eases.

“As the county starts to recover, it makes sense to return the concessionary pass arrangements back to normal. This will free up more seats for keyworkers and children who need to travel early in the morning and allow pass holders to travel when the buses aren’t as busy.”
