Two Nottingham teenage entrepreneurs, who spotted a gap in the market for mobile phone repairs, have set up their own company called 21st Century Repairs. Lamar Griffiths and Reece Walker aim to provide a quick and easy mobile repair service for people who need their mobile phone repaired with the least disruption. After a lot of research, planning and raising of funds to kickstart the business, Lamar and Reece now travel throughout Nottinghamshire in their specially kitted-out van to locations specified by customers carrying out mobile phone repairs.
The two friends from school first had the idea for a mobile repair service for mobile phones in 2017. At the time Reece was working in a mobile phone repairs shop and noticed that a lot of customers found it incredibly inconvenient to have to travel into town and wait 45 minutes or more for their phone to be repaired. However, due to training and work commitments, the friends had to delay making plans towards getting a business up and running for over a year.
Last Summer, they were accepted onto the Prince’s Trust’s Enterprise Programme, where they received guidance on all aspects involved in setting up and managing a successful business.
Lamar said: “The Prince’s Trust’s advice and support has helped us turn our business idea into a reality. We’ve made a strong start. Customers can contact us via our website, Facebook, Twitter and of course by phone, so we’ve been busy since launching 21st Century Repairs on 9 January!”
Reece added: “Customers have really appreciated the time we save them and that it’s hassle-free. We just turn up at their home, workplace or even a cafe, so they can get on with whatever they’re doing while we fix their phone in the back of our customised van.”
Lamar continued: “The fact that we work from the van means we don’t have the expensive overheads of a shop and so can charge lower prices. Therefore customers save money as well as valuable time.”
At the moment repairs and accessories related to iPhones and some Samsung models. However, the company hopes to be able to expand its services to cover other mobile phone brands in the future.
