Nottingham celebrated in style this weekend with the 40th anniversary event of the Robin Hood Half Marathon. The sun shone on almost 5,000 runners, all taking their place at the start line on Victoria Embankment, Sunday 26th September.
An incredibly special weekend for all involved, from first time runners to seasoned elites, fancy dress fundraisers to volunteers, cheer crews, organisers and key workers.
The global pandemic put a pause to the race in 2020; it was a return from testing times but together Nottingham came alive. The city lit up with thousands of runners and supporters. Hugs and cheers flooded the course and finish line for a memory book weekend.
Megan Rosier won the women’s race in 85:56 with Will Strangeway from Lincoln Wellington Athletic Club crossing the line in 67:41 taking home the men’s champion spot. The Mini marathon in partnership with Ikano Bank and the Nottingham Post Corporate Challenge also took place on Sunday, with hundreds of families and colleagues lacing up to enjoy the celebrations. Rosa Shadforth-Groucutt was the first girl to cross the line in 10:52 with Oscar Wyszynski winning the boys race in 09:54.
Judith Manson, Goldline Events race director says: “We couldn’t be happier to have our event back up and running after what has been an incredibly tough 18 months. To see families, friends, newcomers to running and our world class runners lace up and take part in our 40th celebrations, was an emotional watch for all involved. We are so proud of all our runners, our volunteers, race team and Nottingham as a whole for showing strength, determination and new levels of love and energy in support of each other and our partner charities.”
