Rushcliffe Borough Council is set to dedicate a further £1m towards its climate change reserves as it aims to further is efforts to be carbon neutral.
The authority’s Cabinet passed its budget setting report on February 11 that committed the investment towards its Climate Change Action Reserve that will now implement changes to its operations from its internal Carbon Clever working group.
Service areas from the Council now meet to identify and develop co-ordinated actions to assess its property assets, fleet and transport, contracts and procurement, policy and regulation, waste and recycling.
It is also considering where it can influence the Borough’s communities, groups and businesses to take similar strides towards being carbon neutral.
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Finance and Contracts Cllr Gordon Moore said: “This is a generation budget, addressing the present and future as we aim to be carbon neutral by 2030 and both financially and environmentally sustainable.
“Realigning this part of the budget specifically for climate and carbon improvements will mean we can be proactive in the future changes we make to delivering our services.
“The Council have hosted a Nottinghamshire Environmental Strategy workshop to align delivery with the D2N2 Energy Strategy as we aim as an organisation to be carbon neutral.
“Officers have also taken part in webinars and attended climate change events held by the Carbon Trust, Nottingham City Council, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Local Authority Energy Partnership, Midlands Energy Hub, private training providers and Western Power Distribution.”
Full Council will vote on the budget proposal at a meeting on March 5.
