Two women from Rushcliffe have joined forces and raised over £4,500 for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) as they prepare to run the Virgin London Marathon on 28th April 2019.
Frances Elliott and Vivienne Ives both received places in this year’s London Marathon. Aware that places are rare, they were determined that others should benefit from their good fortune and pledged to raise as much money as possible for the British Heart Foundation.
With support of their local David Lloyd club, Fran and Viv have raised more than £4,500 for the BHF’s lifesaving research. Alongside their busy training schedule, they have hosted a range of fantastic fundraising events including a cake sale and quiz night at David Lloyd, collection at their local Morrisons, and collecting sponsorship from friends and family.
Fran said: “Through the amazing work that The British Heart Foundation do, they are giving more people the chance to survive heart disease. My dad was one of those lucky people when in 1992 he had a quadruple bypass after a heart attack, which gave my family an additional 20 wonderful years with him, for which I am so grateful.”
Viv, who is running her first ever marathon, said: “I’m so grateful for all the support and encouragement I’m receiving but would so appreciate donations to benefit the British Heart Foundation, a worthy cause and an incentive to get me round! The more research and development in the treatment of heart related issues is the better for all of us.”
Around 12,000 people across Rushcliffe are fighting a daily battle with heart and circulatory disease. Thanks to the public’s generosity, the BHF is funding research central to discovering vital treatments for people living with these conditions.
Naomi Walters, BHF Fundraising Manager for Nottinghamshire said: “We’re so grateful to Fran and Viv for their incredible support. Their energy and enthusiasm for fundraising alongside their marathon training is nothing short of remarkable. Thanks to Fran, Viv and the generosity of people who have supported them, we’ll be able to fund even more research into heart and circulatory conditions.”
Frances and Vivienne are joining a brilliant community of BHF supporters in the West Bridgford and wider Rushcliffe area: The BHF has also recently launched a new West Bridgford Fundraising Group who are supporting the Charity by raising awareness and vital funds in their local community.
The new West Bridgford group are looking for members to join them, so contact Naomi on 07384 257 023 or email firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in meeting new people and powering the BHF’s life-saving research.
