Trentbarton have announced that the Skylink bus, which connects Nottingham with East Midlands Airport (EMA), will no longer serve the Clifton estate.
A link to the airport along the A453 has been pretty consistent for the last decade with various bus operators running the route, but its path through the estate has been much more variable.
There was an official launch on Southchurch Drive back in 2016 when East Midlands Airport bosses heralded the link-up, saying it would create jobs for the people of Clifton. After the bus was routed away from the estate, TrentBarton and EMA announced in July last year that the Skyline would once again run through the heart of Clifton, saying “it’s time to better connect Clifton’s residents”.
However, less than a year later the route through the heart of Clifton has been axed with TrentBarton saying it will “speed up journey times”.
The changes will take effect on Sunday and TrentBarton say they will continue to serve the tram park and ride and Clifton Pastures, as well as linking with Nottingham Trent University’s Clifton Campus.
A Trentbarton spokesperson said: “On Sunday we will be re-introducing Skylink Express.
“A year ago we diverted one of our ever popular Skylink brands into Clifton.
“Although this change was helpful to a number of people living in Clifton, we received numerous customer requests to reinstate the quicker and more direct Skylink Express.
“After much consideration we decided to return to our fast and direct route between Nottingham and East Midlands Airport.
“There will be a couple of new stops at East Midlands Enterprise Gateway and Clifton Pastures.
“We will also reintroduce the popular Nottingham Trent University stop and continue to serve the Clifton Tram Park & Ride.”
