It is almost impossible to listen to or play the ukulele without smiling.
This fabulous little instrument has experienced a meteoric rise in popularity over the past few years, becoming the fastest-selling item in music shops across the country.
Nottingham is no exception and West Bridgford plays host to one of the county’s biggest clubs for ukulele players.
Nottingham Ukulele Club is run by Neil Marriott who lives in Wilford Village. Neil arranges all the music, which is projected onto a large screen for the members to play from.
The music Neil chooses comes from a wide variety of styles and eras. With such a broad range of playing abilities, Neil makes sure that he includes some simple strum-along songs, as well as a few that challenge the more experienced players.
The club has been running for five years and with a current membership of 84 members, this friendly, fun-loving group gathers every week to sing and play the ukulele. New members are always welcome.
For more information please visit www.nottinghamukeclub.com. Hear them play in West Bridgford on Saturday 5th September on Central Avenue at 12:30pm, 1:20pm, 2pm and 2:45pm – and also at the Poppy & Pint in Lady Bay at 7:45pm and 8:30pm.
