Dedicated Silverdale Knit and Natter Group has created nearly 2,000 little woolly hats this year for Age UK and innocent’s Big Knit campaign.
The hats will be found adorning innocent smoothie bottles on sale later and for each one sold, innocent donates 25p to Age UK’s Spread the Warmth campaign, helping to fund national and local winter projects.
Brenda Preece, one of the knitters, said: “Age UK has helped me in getting my central heating installed and also rewired my electrical.
“This support has helped me stay in my house and this has motivated me in supporting this fundraising activity.”
Another knitter, Betty Knibb, added: “Thank you Age UK for your help in the past, this is a little I can do in return.”
Mick Tinkler, chief executive officer at Age UK Notts, said: “The Big Knit couldn’t happen without the support of local knitters and we’re extremely grateful to everyone from the Silverdale Knit and Natter Group, who got involved and knitted hats.
“The funds raised will go a long way towards supporting local winter projects, which are vital in helping older people through this difficult time of year.”
