West Bridgford’s Rushcliffe Arena was hit by fire on Sunday afternoon.
The leisure centre is currently undergoing redevelopment and parts of it were in the process of demolition.
The fire broke out at around 4:30pm and the smoke could be seen from all around the city.
Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue say that a “fire investigation is now taking place and the team are being supported by the East Midlands hydro carbon dog”.
The arena closed to the public at the end of last month and renovation was under way, with the new leisure centre set to open in January 2017.
It is part of a plan by Rushcliffe Borough Council to merge the facilities in the area with Rushcliffe Leisure Centre set to close once the new facilities are open.
