A Bingham opticians is supporting Radcliffe-on-Trent skeleton athlete Hannah Stevenson, who is bidding to represent Team GB at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
Specsavers, on Eaton Place in Bingham, is sponsoring the 23-year-old by supplying the runners for her sled.
Skeleton involves the athlete sliding down an ice track head first on a sled – reaching speeds of up to 130kph.
“It’s fantastic to be able to support a local rising star,” said optical director, Amit Rana. “It’s hard to comprehend what she does and we are all in awe of her bravery, commitment and determination.
“We’ll be following her progress closely and keeping everything crossed for her.”
Hannah won a bronze medal in Lillehammer in her second Europa Cup competition and is currently on the British Skeleton talent squad, training in Bath.
She said: “I’m so very grateful for this sponsorship – it means a great deal to me.
“Alongside funding from the National Lottery, we need to support ourselves financially so to have this extra help is really valuable.
“It has enabled me to focus more on my training, meaning that I’m in the best shape possible going into this season.”
