Rushcliffe Borough Council has refused planning permission for the development of land on homes north of Nottingham Road in Radcliffe-on-Trent.
The land being proposed for construction is around the Radcliffe Animal Shelter
The application, put forward by the Mosaic Group, was revised following refusal of planning permission at the site in January 2013.
The council said in a statement: “The planning application for developing 300 new homes on land north of Nottingham Road, Radcliffe-on-Trent, considered at our Development Control Committee last night (Thursday), was refused planning permission.
The site is in the greenbelt and members were not satisfied that there were ‘very special circumstances’ (eg housing need within the Borough) which outweighed the harm to the greenbelt.
“The applicant may now appeal to the Planning Inspectorate to have the decision reviewed. This can be undertaken any time up to six months from now.”
As well as 300 homes, the application included the formation of a primary access to the site, infrastructure, open space provision, surface water attenuation and formation of surface water storage ponds.
