The Nottingham branch of the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) were given the opportunity to hold a collection in Morrisons’ Netherfield store in August.
The branch then found that they could not field a full team of collectors on both days and asked the West Bridgford branch if they could assist and provide collectors, which they agreed to do.
As the day drew closer, the RNLI regional office received an offer from Tesco at Bulwell to allow the RNLI to collect in their store.
The regional office, being unaware of the Morrisons collection, asked Nottingham, West Bridgford and Calverton – known as the Calverton Ladies Lifeboat Guild – branches if one of them could take on the Tesco collection, but they all sated that they unable to assist.
This created an all hands to the pumps scenario. After some deliberation, it was agreed that Nottingham and West Bridgford branches would continue to cover the Morrisons collection as the Calverton Branch had now found collectors to cover the Tesco collection and that is what happened.
The Morrisons collection raised £1,315 and Tesco £419, this was a brilliant result.
The RNLI would like to thank the management and staff of both stores for their help and co-operation, also all who helped collecting over this hectic period and supported us with their donations. Thank you all.
As you can see the RNLI can always use more collectors. It is easy to do – you just stand or sit for an hour and smile at the public who give you money.
