NHS Blood and Transplant has recruited 1,000 new blood donors since the opening of the new Nottingham blood donor centre.
Richard Shortland, NHS Blood and Transplant’s regional head of blood donor recruitment, said: “We’ve had a tremendous response from Nottingham since we opened the doors of our new donor centre in May. More than 1,200 people have made the generous decision to start saving lives by giving blood for the first time.
“We’d hoped that we would recruit 1,000 new donors in the city this year. It’s brilliant to reach that figure but it’s important to stress we will still always need more new donors to replace those people who can no longer donate.
“We’d also really encourage these new Nottinghamshire donors to find the time to donate during December because this is the time of year when hospitals need their support more than ever. Donations can drop significantly over the festive period when people have very busy diaries – but patients need blood 365 days a year.
“Nottingham’s new donor centre is bright, modern and spacious, and we think the response shows how easy people have found it to donate. The centre is close to public transport opposite the police station on North Church Street.”
New blood and platelet donors are always welcome. Make and keep your appointment to donate in Nottingham by calling the Donor Line on 0300 123 23 23 or visiting www.blood.co.uk
