The local South Notts Sapphires Girls Rugby are now looking the part, playing in a new kit this season.
South Notts Sapphires Girls Rugby started when Caroline Towndrow from West Bridgford RFC, along with Marie Chaston and Jo Batten from Nottingham Moderns RFC, decided to combine their girls’ sections.
The girls themselves decided the name and “come on Sapphires” can now be heard across the rugby pitches of Nottinghamshire.
Marie secured a great sponsorship deal from Clifton Bidding Bargain Page, a Facebook bidding page especially created to raise money for local charities and groups.
The sponsorship has been spent on new playing shirts and training tops that include the new logo that gives both the club and the girls their own special identity.
Caroline Towndrow said: “It’s great that Clifton Bidding Bargain have supported our local girls rugby team.
“Sport is so important for girls to gain confidence and hopefully Clifton Bidding Bargain will enjoy watching the continued growth at South Notts Sapphires during the season.
“South Notts Sapphires run U13s and U15s this season, but will be expanding to include U11s and U18s next season.
“There are matches and training sessions organised for the rest of the season, but new girls are always welcome to come along and have a go.
“You can be assured that new players will be made very welcome by our friendly bunch of girls.”
