Plans for 1,050 new homes in Bingham are a step closer after Rushcliffe Borough Council received an application from Barratt Homes for the first 317 homes.
The location of the proposed development is land to the east and west of Chapel Lane.
The first phase of the Barratt Homes development will deliver a variety of two to five-bedroom homes, as well as a range of affordable housing, including bungalows, along with formal and informal play areas, open spaces, balancing ponds and connectivity to the town centre.
Subsequent phases of the development, to deliver further housing and other facilities as approved in the original application, are expected in the future and these would be subject to separate assessment.
The Borough Council say they are working with local people and businesses, as well as the Town Council, to upgrade community facilities and draw in new employment opportunities for local people, and has recently committed to undertaking a masterplanning exercise for Bingham.
A spokesperson said: “People want to move to Bingham. They want to be part of this up-and-coming community.
“This new development will provide over a thousand new homes, as well as play areas for all ages and, in time, a new community centre.
“This residential development supports the council’s recent acquisitions on Chapel Lane and Moorbridge Road, which will be developed as new employment sites and during development there will be opportunities for training local people in construction – through apprenticeships, traineeships and a variety of jobs.”
