Beeston FC have recently launched a football club for girls, which will be the first in Beeston, following the completion of the very successful Wildcats programme.
SSE Wildcats was a scheme created by the FA, which was implemented in over 200 clubs. It was hoped that the programme will help to fulfil their goal of doubling the number of women who play football by 2020.
Wildcats sessions ran weekly and were exclusively for girls. This is crucial because, in many cases, girls are put off football because of the highly competitive nature of mixed training or matches.
The girls club have been split into four age categories, some of whom will train at Chilwell Olympia and some at Beeston Hockey Club.
Under-6s will take part in a soccer school training only programme, while under-8s, under-11s and under-13s- will play matches as well as training.
Charlie Walker, who will be the coach for the oldest age group in the club, stresses the importance of these teams for the community, saying: “This is great for the club and for Beeston.
“Lots of girls would love to play but they have not had the opportunity.”
The club is looking for new players, both to train and to play in matches.
If you are interested, or you know of anyone who may be, you can contact Ann Marie Carroll on 07791 348530, or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Training will start on 10th September.
Additionally, anyone wishing to sponsor the kit of any of the four teams would be very welcome.
