A host of Midlands rowing clubs descended on the River Trent for the annual Autumn Head race.
This is a long-distance contest from 500 metres above Clifton Bridge down to the finish at the clubs below Trent Bridge, totaling 4,500 metres.
With 93 single scullers starting in Division 1, members of the newly revived Nottingham County Rowing Association scooped the three fastest times for junior womens scullers’ age groups.
These were newcomer Jasmine Brankin from Sleaford (WJ16, pictured), Olivia Bates from Derby (WJ17) and Abi Clark of West Bridgford (WJ18).
In the junior men’s category, Finn Larkin of West Bridgford made up the team trophies to four by winning the boys J18 category by just one second in his race, matching the similar tight finish verdicts recorded by Jasmine and Abi.
All scullers were faced with a fierce headwind against the stream particularly on the final bend under the Suspension Bridge, causing choppy and uncertain wave conditions, putting everyone’s nerve and boat sense to the test.
