The Lord Mayor of Nottingham, Councillor Jackie Morris, has officially unveiled the ‘Amanda Ogelsby Bus’ in recognition of Amanda beating over 800 drivers to be crowned this year’s Nottingham City Transport Bus Driver of the Year!
In a special ceremony which took place this week, The Lord Mayor formally named bus 334 in honour of 27-year-old Amanda from Cotgrave – the first ever female driver to win the award – and congratulated her on her outstanding achievement.
“To win this award out of over 800 drivers is truly impressive and it gives me enormous pleasure to name this bus after Amanda,” said the Lord Mayor. “This is a fantastic way to recognise her excellent work and status as NCT Driver of the Year.”
The bus – complete with a full-size photograph of Amanda covering the back – will now operate on one of her regular routes – Green 11 between the City, Meadows and Lady Bay. So, passengers hopping on board may well do a double-take as they realise they’re experiencing their journey with an award-winning driver!
“We’ve named buses after several local heroes over the last few years – people who have made a significant, positive contribution to their community or local area,” says NCT Marketing Manager, Anthony Carver-Smith. “We believe all of our Driver of the Year winners well and truly fall into this category so we’ve named a bus after each of them…adding their photograph on the back too of course. As our buses are seen and used by hundreds of thousands of people every week, it’s the perfect way to highlight how proud we are of our team, and ensure they receive the recognition, and local fame they deserve!”
