The Lady Bay Summer Festival is a great day for all the family featuring live music, performances, stalls, lovely food and drink, and excellent real ales from Castle Rock Brewery. And all of this with FREE admission!
The festival, now in its fourth year, will take place on Saturday 5th September at the Poppy and Pint pub, Lady Bay, Nottingham from 12 noon to 8.30pm. The Poppy and Pint is at the heart of the Lady Bay community and the festival is the flagship of their broad programme of exciting events. The Poppy is part of Castle Rock brewery’s stable of great local pubs.
The 2015 Lady Bay Festival is run by just two volunteers – a husband and wife team who have lived in Lady Bay for the last ten years. The team, Mike and Kate Earl, say that local support is essential to making the day a success:
“We’ve not long had a baby so we thought we might not have time to organise the festival this year. But we’ve had great support from the team at the Poppy and there’s such a wealth of local music talent and great small businesses that it has made it all worthwhile. We’re even having festival baby grows printed up for the little ones this year!”
Last year’s festival saw hundreds turn out for a wonderful day of live music, unique shopping and family fun. This year’s event promises to be just as exciting, with stalls from local businesses selling handmade jewellery, crafts, baked goods, home decor, foodie treats and much more. PORCO street food are one of the vendors looking forward the event:
“As a small business from Lady Bay, PORCO are really excited to be a part of this year’s festival, which we’ve enjoyed as a family before. We’ll be bringing our proper free range sausages and fresh porchétta to delight the revellers.”
The live music line up is as diverse as ever, featuring acoustic, folk, pop and rock acts, as well as the festival headliner; the ever-popular Nottingham Ukulele Orchestra. For the Special Guests, who will play in the afternoon, this is their fourth time at the Lady Bay Festival:
“The festival is one of our favourite gigs of the year – which is why we keep coming back! We play covers of songs from the 60s to today and always get a great reception from the audience.”
For families, activities include a bouncy castle, ice lollies, candy floss and face painting – with a great selection of food and drink available for parents in the pub! The full list of stalls and live music line up can be found at http://ladybayfestival.com/programme/.
In addition to being the generous main funders of the festival, Castle Rock are once again brewing up a special beer for the event: FestivALE! Last year this new brew proved extremely popular, selling out within hours. The FestivALE beer mat was spotted by the British Beermat Collector’s Society from the Brewery Museum and now resides in their collection. The beermat is part of the wonderful festival artwork produced by local artist Joe Bright (http://www.joebright.co.uk).
The Lady Bay Summer Festival raises funds for the Lady Bay Community Fund, which is available to organisations or individuals in Lady Bay who need assistance with funding for events or projects. To support local businesses, pitches for stalls are free. The music acts kindly perform for free and are rewarded with a large and lively audience and some great publicity.
