A select band of Nottingham Kayak Club racers made the journey to Gailey Canoe Club, near Wolverhampton. The wind, rain and bouncy conditions on the canal had obviously put the others off but for those who did race, the journey was worth it.
Nottingham Kayak Club only saw paddlers taking on the four-mile course. In the fastest singles division over this distance, Imre Kucksa had a storming race, despite the bouncy conditions.
He finished in second place, just seconds behind first place, and he was also promoted. Fellow club paddler Dave Hadley finished in third and Kevin Tennyson was fourth.
Also racing over four miles was Sarah Millest. She survived the elements, made trickier by paddling canoe which has no rudder to make steering easier, to take third place.
Racing in double canoe were Mick and Kath Nadal. This well-practised pair had a good race, despite the strong wind, to take second place in their race.
