By now, you’ve probably heard of Marie Kondo and her series on how to de-clutter your home.
Reducing the amount of things you have, so that you only retain those that spark joy sounds like a great idea, though it’s not a new idea in Keyworth, where they’ve been helping locals to de-clutter for years with their annual Garage Sale Safari.
The Garage Sale Safari was founded with the thought that everyone has things they don’t need and don’t use that others do need and would use and that it made sense to help people do that in their own community.
The idea is to get as many people as possible to hold a garage sale in their own home on the same day and then you create a map to show where all the stalls are.
It’s quite a simple way to make it easy for people to de-clutter without having to drag a car full of stuff to a field somewhere, especially because that often means leaving out all the big things they can’t fit in the boot.
The organisers, Keyvolution, tell us that running this community event has been a lot of fun over the years.
They get great feedback from participants, often saying that they have enjoyed meeting more of their neighbours, and how they really like the atmosphere in the village whilst it’s going on.
The annual event also raises a lot for good causes too, both through the funds the Garage Sale Safari get for stall registration and map sales, and also because people often choose to run stalls for specific charities.
This year, the Keyworth Garage Sale Safari will be on Saturday 8th June from 10am until 3pm.
Maps will be on sale from clearly signposted stalls at key locations around the village and there will be a number of places selling refreshments as well.
