Nottingham Rowing Club hosted two local universities at the weekend. Nottingham Trent University are coached by club member and Nottinghamshire’s Young Coach of the Year, Ashley Hewitt.
Loughborough University are actual members of the club and several of the girls row with Nottingham Rowing Club high-performance group, coached by Dez Atkins and Nikki Spencer.
At the recent three-day BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) rowing regatta – held at the National Watersports Centre at Holme Pierrepont – the high-performance girls wearing their Loughborough strip won four medals.
Novice Samantha Dartnall won gold in the Women’s Beginners Single Sculls. Katherine Aquilar-Agon won gold in the Intermediate Lightweight Sculls.
Kirstie Maxfield won silver in the Women’s Sculls, before Katherine and Kirstie joined forces to take the bronze in the Women’s Championship Double Sculls.
