Now here’s a formidable four-wheel-drive compact SUV. It’s the all-new Jeep Compass and it’s said to offer the best 4×4 off-road capability in its class.
What’s more the brand’s legendary off-road capability is combined with user-friendly technology and a full array of active driver assist systems to make the model a highly attractive new arrival at Chris Variava’s Jeep dealership at Nottingham Road, Basford.
The vehicle is, without doubt, a key addition to the Jeep portfolio as it allows the brand to tackle a sector of the car market that’s expected to grow by almost 20% by 2020 and means the manufacturer is represented in every SUV sector.
Sport, Longitude and Limited versions are available now with the latter offering top-of-the-range trim and excelling when it comes to refinement, technology fitted as standard and equipment.
Later in the year there will also be a higher-riding Trailhawk example delivering best-in-class, trail-rated 4×4 capability for customers demanding a vehicle that excels off-road.
In order to meet the needs and preferences of a broad range of customers, six powertrain combinations are being offered and these embrace two petrol engines, three diesel units and two gearboxes. – a nine-speed automatic and a six-speed manual.
Best-in-class off-road capability is thanks to two advanced, intelligent full-time 4×4 systems: Jeep Active Drive and Jeep Active Drive Low, the latter with 20:1 crawl ratio. Each can send 100% of available torque to any one wheel when needed.
Both 4×4 systems include Jeep Selec-Terrain providing auto, snow, sand and mud modes. The Trailhawk, which rides on 17-inch off-road tyres, also offers a rock mode for the best four-wheel-drive performance on any surface and in any weather.
Driver and passenger safety were paramount in the development of the range with the vehicle available with more than 70 active and passive safety and security features. These include Forward Collision Warning-Plus, LaneSense Lane Departure Warning-Plus, Blind-spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path detection, ParkView rear backup camera with dynamic grid lines, Automated Parallel and Perpendicular Park assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, electronic stability control with electronic roll mitigation and six air bags as standard. Yes, it’s hardly surprising the model, which is immediately recognisable as a Jeep thanks to seven-slot grille, has earned the highest five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
Equally impressive is that the all-new Compass sets a new standard in terms of infotainment systems in the Jeep lineup as it offers two new Uconnect systems (UConnect 5.0 and 8.4NAV), delivering communication, entertainment and navigation features that enhance the driving experience.
The Uconnect 8.4 NAV systems have a high definition screen and include new Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features for hands-free phone, navigation and voice texting. These allow customers to seamlessly integrate their phone’s voice control systems and a full range of infotainment features.
When it comes to engines, the choice in the UK includes 1.4-litre MultiAir2 Turbo petrol power plants delivering 140 and 170hp, plus 1.6 and 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesels with 120 and 140hp on tap and a higher-output, 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel with 170hp. Stop&Start is employed for more economical motoring.
Clearly the all-new Compass provides a compelling proposition to customers, by combining the legendary Jeep off-road capability with a distinctive design and a variety of user-friendly technologies that ensure a safe, comfortable and connected everyday driving experience. Check it out and I reckon you will be highly impressed.
