A local fashion designer has won the Midlands Emerging Designer of the Year and is now setting up her own business
In 2015, young designer Sarah Louise Woodward completed her four-year degree at the University of Derby studying Fashion Studies. Since graduating with a First-Class Honours degree, Sarah has had some great success.
In October last year, Sarah was awarded the prestigious title of Midlands Emerging Designer after showcasing her collection at the prestigious event in Birmingham. The event was judged by industry professionals with a high level of respect in the industry .
Later in 2015, Sarah went on to show her collection on the Catwalk at the Clothes Show Live. She is now starting 2016 by launching her own collections, available to buy.
Sarah, 24, told The Local News: “I aim to give women something that they cannot buy anywhere else. I believe the strength of my label is in my design and approach to creativity. I want my clothes to have their own distinct look but also be very wearable.
“Winning the Midlands Emerging Designer Award has been a wonderful opportunity and platform for my work. The event was something I will always remember and winning the award was an indescribable rewarding feeling I want to keep pushing myself forward for a successful future.
“I love the fact that with my own label I am in full control of my own work. I can create the garment through from the design stages, to pattern cutting it myself, selecting the fabric and then sewing the garment together myself. I find the whole process very rewarding.”
Sarah is now setting up her own business. She currently has a home studio where she creates her stunning pieces. She recently had her graduation and made her own made-to-measure dress. She will be releasing a new collection later this year.
