Anthea Baguley brought her Yorkshire Terrier Bertie to the West Bridgford based Crematorium in 1999. She was so impressed by the location and service that she kept returning on a regular basis.
She simply loved being near Bertie’s ashes in the memorial garden, so much so that she ended up living in the owner’s home in the Crematorium grounds.
During her many visits she would chat to other customers and help them overcome the grief caused by the loss of their beloved pets. She became friends with the staff and many of the other customers.
Anthea, who had never married and had no family, gradually became part of the furniture and started to help out around the place. She regularly pottered in the memorial garden looking after tributes left by customers alongside her own tribute to Bertie.
John Harbury-Carlisle, the owner of Nottingham Pet Crematorium, said: “We are honoured to name this room after Anthea. She was a wonderful, lovely, kind person who helped so many of our customers. Although we met through her sad loss, she became a true friend who can never be replaced. Anthea would have loved this room and we are delighted to name it in her memory”.
Anthea worked in the offices of Nottingham’s P P Payne, manufacturers of cotton tapes for the local textile industry, for most of her life. After retiring in 2003 she moved into the Crematorium owners home, so she could be near her beloved pet. Anthea died in 2017 following a short illness, aged 74.
