Parcel collection service, Pass My Parcel, is urging members of the public, as well as its own staff, to scour their wardrobes for unwanted winter clothing to help homeless and vulnerable people in Nottingham this Christmas.
Announcing its annual ‘Pass It On’ charity campaign, the firm is collecting jumpers, coats, gloves and scarves over the next two months, with donations being handed out at in the city during December.
‘Pass It On’ is part of a year-long national initiative, which brings together colleagues from Pass My Parcel and its sister brands, the newspaper and magazine wholesaler Smiths News, coffee company Jack’s Beans and Tuffnells Parcels Express. This year they are determined to eclipse the 2016 total of 5,000 garments, which were given to people in six cities, including London, Leicester and Manchester.
Explaining why the campaign had proved so successful, Jonathan Bunting, Chief Operating Officer of Smiths News which owns Pass My Parcel, said:
“Last year, we collected a staggering number of garments just from our teams and their families. Because of this, we felt it was only right that we open up the appeal to members of the public, so we help even more vulnerable people this Christmas.
“Homelessness is an issue that is close to many people’s hearts, particularly during the cold winter months, and our campaign is something that we hope everyone can get involved in.”
Figures from Shelter show that there are more now than 250,000 homeless people in the UK. Nottingham residents will be able to donate items at Smiths News, Brailsford Way, Chilwell Meadows, Beeston, Nottingham, NG9 6DH, and people can also donate online by visiting www.passmyparcel.com/passiton.
“Being out on the streets has a devastating effect on a person’s health and wellbeing, so a simple gesture, like giving them a coat and hot drink, can make the world of difference. It has a practical purpose, but it also tells them that someone is thinking about them.”
