Walking enthusiast, Marie Smith of Lady Bay, will take on a huge physical test in September by trekking the Great Wall of China Challenge.
She will take on this gruelling six-day task in the name of homelessness and is fundraising for local charity Framework.
Marie has been working hard to raise sponsorship and has involved colleagues at her workplace Cooper Parry in a multitude of fun and imaginative events such as bake sales, race nights, foreign coin collections and a quality online raffle.
After visiting her local Framework project, supporting young homeless people in Lady Bay, Marie said: “Having nowhere to sleep and no home to go to must be a terrifying prospect, and something I feel passionate about stopping.
“The trek takes place over six days, walking over watchtowers, battlements, up and down thousands of steps, it will be a difficult task but I want to complete this journey so that I can help others on theirs towards independence.
“Thanks to all those who have supported me already and anyone else who can help me closer to my fundraising goal.
“I know remembering your donations and words of encouragement will spur me on during difficult moments.”
Tori Harrison of Framework has been working closely with Marie and said: “Everyone at Framework is immensely proud of Marie’s efforts.
“She has worked tirelessly over months to train and create fundraising opportunities.
“It’s brilliant that Marie has taken the time to meet people in our Lady Bay project.
“In all my time at Framework I haven’t encountered anyone take on the Great Wall and we are all so grateful.”
Supporters of Marie’s efforts can help her and Framework reach her £3,000 fundraising target by donating at www.frameworkha.org/helpmarie.
