The Phoenix Signing Choir, based in Radcliffe-on-Trent, have recently won second place in the UK National Signing Competition held in Kent.
Sally Anderson, a member of the choir, told the Local News: “After an early start on a bright Saturday morning, the choir travelled to Medway to join the other 12 choirs for an evening of performances that had to be seen to be believed.”
Despite anxiously waiting until 10pm and the added pressure of closing the show, Phoenix Signing Choir rose to the occasion under the guidance of their new choirmaster Helen McLoughlin (seen holding the trophy).
The choir performed with enthusiasm and passion, receiving great feedback from the three experienced judges.
Their choice of songs went down well with the audience and the performance was scored on clarity of signing, translation and overall style and the judge’s scores were combined to determine the final result.
The choir was praised for their “great facial expressions, synchronicity and energy”.
Worthy winners were Vision, the hosting choir of 50 signers, who won the Morgan Astill Inspiration trophy, presented by Simon Astill who set-up the competition originally and held the first event in Nottingham last year.
“The choir would like to thank all the local businesses, family and family for your support,” added Sally.
