Dancing began at 7:30pm and by 7:45pm the floor was full of fast and furious groups of people obviously enjoying themselves. The music was provided by Bellows, Scratchitt and Pluckitt, who are a five-piece Ceilidh band.
Charlie was the ‘caller’ and he successfully led the dancers through the intricate steps, right and left-hand stars, doh-se-dohs and ladies baskets.
Hot food – provided by Vanessa of the Poppy & Pint – was consumed during the interval, whilst the company recovered their communal breath. To keep everyone in the mood, the “Strawberry Jammers” entertained with a selection of traditional songs.
Local firms supported the evening with generous raffle prizes. In no particular order, they were a meal for two at the Poppy & Pint, afternoon tea for two at Tiffin on Abbey Road, a potted plant from Flower Scene on Gordon Road, a bottle of wine from the West Bridgford Co-op Store and a selection of cake-making equipment from Jayline on Tudor Square. Other prizes were donated by members of the RNLI.
The organisers would like to thank James and Vanessa, and the staff of the Poppy & Pint for their support and help, the two groups of musicians who did a magnificent job in keeping the evening flowing, the donation of very worthwhile raffle prizes and all those who bought tickets, came and made the evening one to remember.
