Courageous cancer survivor Danielle Robinson is raising money for the Brads Cancer Foundation by taking part in a half run marathon later this year.
The 25-year-old from Wollaton, Nottingham, has already raised over £580 pounds in sponsorship through the money donating website Just Giving, with all the proceeds going towards equipment at the foundation that will help enable the treatment of teenagers with cancer in the East Midlands.
Eleven years ago, Danielle was misdiagnosed by her local doctor’s surgery on two separate incidents, who overlooked the growth of a cancerous tumour around her windpipe. The courageous young woman’s heart had also stopped beating on several occasions, but she was successfully resuscitated by her father Adrian.
Danielle says that she hopes to inspire others to raise money for the charity, and thanked her family for their continuing love and support during her ordeal.
She said, “I have been through hell and back but I wasn’t going to let this cancer define me. I have the most supporting family that were and still are there for me every step of the way, and without them I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
Despite spending the vast majority of her time in and out of hospital, she has managed to successfully complete her studies by recently graduating with a 2.1 Bachelor honours degree in Media Philosophy at Nottingham Trent University. She has also managed to secure a job as a Project Leader at Rolls-Royce Nuclear Submarines in Derby.
Danielle’s sister, Hollie, another recent degree graduate from New College Nottingham, described her sister as an “the biggest inspiration in her life”, and was “proud of her achievements in her life.”
“I choose to live my life in the moment.” Said Danielle. “My life is so precious to me and I feel so lucky to be given another chance. Anything is possible if you work hard and never give in, and I am just really grateful for the support I’ve had from so many people already.”
The half marathon ‘Ramathon’, is a 13.1-mile race which starts and finishes at the iPro Stadium in Derby. The event will be taking place in Derby on the 5th of June.
