A West Bridgford resident is preparing to undertake a charity cycle ride with friends to raise money for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.
Charlotte Day will cycle coast to coast from Whitehaven to Whitby to aid of her mum who passed away in 2016.
“In August, Molly, Chloe and myself will be cycling England’s coast to coast which is about 170 miles over a weekend, depending how lost we get!” Charlotte told the West Bridgford Local News.
“My mum passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2016 and with a five-year survival rate of between 3% and 7%, this is the lowest of all common cancers.
“This statistic has not improved over the past 40 years, yet still receives less than 2% of national spend on cancer research.
“So, I thought this would be a good opportunity to raise money for helping beat this disease.
“Since there are very little symptoms of the disease, it is often too late to have treatment once diagnosed.
“Mum was lucky in the sense that she could have it operated on which gave her a bit more time.
“However, many are diagnosed too late so treatment methods are limited. The charity Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund directly fund research by offering grants to researchers and encourage funding organisations to give pancreatic cancer the greater attention it desperately needs.
“We have organised this cycle challenge ourselves and all the costs to do this will be fully met by us, so all of your donations will go straight to the charity.
“Any donations would be greatly appreciated and please remember to gift aid.”
