More than 120 students from South Nottinghamshire Academy in Radcliffe-on-Trent and Top Valley Academy took part in the first Central Academy Trust Sports Day, hosted by Central College Nottingham at its Clifton Centre.
Central College Sport students and staff joined PE staff from the academies – who are both sponsored by the Central Academy Trust – to ensure that the fun and closely fought encounter was a huge success.
The morning’s team events saw boys’ and girls’ teams from Years 7, 8 and 9 competing in football, handball and rounders, with an athletics competition in the afternoon.
In the end, Top Valley narrowly came out on top and they received a trophy from Central’s vice-principal (curriculum) Yultan Mellor.
Yultan said: “Bringing students from the two academies together is an important step forward for the Trust and hopefully will be the first of many such events.
“It really benefitted our Sport students who gained valuable experience of working with young people.”
Heads from both academies came along to support their students and cheer them on.
Top Valley head teacher, Sean Kelly, said: “Our students are already asking about coming back to defend their title next year. It meant a lot to them to represent us.”
Dan Philpotts, head of academy at South Nottinghamshire Academy said: “It was all conducted in just the right spirit – what a good day.”
