After an amazing turn out of both runners and enthusiastic spectators at this weekend’s Robin Hood Half Marathon and Marathon, the committee of Notts Women Runners are quite frankly ‘chuffed to bits’ to have been voted ‘Running Club of the Year’ by the prestigious Women’s Running Magazine, where over 24,000 readers voted and we’ve found ourselves shortlisted at the upcoming Nottingham Evening Post Sports Awards.
This is a real accolade to a club that believes there’s no one who can’t run and who provide a supportive, non-judgemental and safe environment for ANY lady to try. We’ve run beginners ‘couch to 5km’ courses and Improvers courses for free all over Notts with more planned and our social running groups and their qwerky names (The Tesco Trotters, The Bulwell Boghoppers, The West Bridgford Warriors to name just a few) are well attended by ladies of all ages, shapes and sizes.
We regularly provide marshals to parkrun and we’ve supported the Robin Hood Half & Full Marathon, Mansfield 10km and Sunrise City 5km with much needed marshals allowing them to run the events.
We are the biggest running club in Notts with over 500 fully affiliated members and a Facebook community of over 5000 followers.
Chair Sion Bostock said “We are so thrilled to have been given this award demonstrating indeed that our ethos makes us different to other clubs. There are no words to convey how proud the committee is to be working with such an amazing bunch of women. We’re known across Nottingham and beyond now and the arrival of the ‘purple army’ both runners and spectators is expected at all local events. It inspires ladies to join us and give running a try. We are not judgemental, a mile is still a mile no matter how fast you run it and we thank all our members for their enduring support and for all those that voted for us.”
