“By leading a healthier life you’ll not only improve your chances of living longer, but your quality of life will get better too”.
Hello, my name is Steven Britton and I facilitate a wide range of social activities and manage around 120 volunteers. This all happens at Lark Hill Village in Clifton, which has been open since 2009. There are 430 residents that either own or rent an apartment or bungalow at Lark Hill.
The village has a gymnasium, steam room, jacuzzi, craft room, woodwork room, bowls green, activities hall, restaurant, bar, café, green house, snooker and pool tables, shop and salon.
What the public may not know is that these facilities are also available to the community of the 55+ age. An annual membership of only £60 or £80 (joint) will open the door for those who may be lonely and would perhaps like to meet other like-minded people. There are over 70 activities per week to choose from and many interest groups to join. For example, gardening and poetry.
We promote well-being through activities. It’s worth knowing that many adults aged 65 and over spend, on average, 10 hours or more each day sitting or lying down, making them the most sedentary age group. Here at Lark Hill Village, we have activities that reduce the risk of falls, obesity, heart disease and more. This, in turn, maintains a person’s independence.
You might start to get aches and pains that you never had before and have less energy to go out. You may also be more vulnerable to falling. “The biggest benefits come to those who start from scratch,” said Dr Cavill. “It’s moving from a sedentary lifestyle to a moderately active one that makes the biggest difference to your health.
“The more you do, the greater the health benefits.” Physical activity and exercise can help you stay healthy, energetic and independent as you get older. Lark Hill Village Open Day will take place on Thursday 31st March 2016 from 10am to 4pm Register for your free ticket by post, email or phone Address: New Rise, Clifton, Nottingham, NG11 8BF.
