The recent Cograve Open Gardens event was a massive success. Community events that help local charities are always welcomed and a great time was had by all on a late June weekend.
A group of 26 residents opened their gardens, the sun shone and folk flooded in.
Over 350 people visited – some from far outside the pretty town of Cotgrave – and explored the beautiful and varied gardens on display.
They also enjoyed the opportunity to buy plants, jams and preserves.
As a result of their generosity, we have arranged for a presentation of £1,600 to the Dove Cottage Day Hospice charity.
Many local people have used this excellent facility, which is based in Stathern.
The WI and local businesses provided refreshments for the event, showing strong community support exists for this activity.
Brian Franks, committee member, said: “We are so grateful to all those who supported us.
“This included officials from Cotgrave Town Council, Rushcliffe Borough Council, Nottinghamshire County Council, Streetwise and local businesses.
“In particular, thanks to Thomas James estate agents who provided the identifying signposts in gardens that were open and the volunteers that provided refreshments.
“For me, the success of this event was evident from visiting gardens myself and seeing people in the street talking to each other merely because each were carrying our very visible programmes.”
