Clifton Bidding Bargain Smiles on Faces fundraising page has raised over £860, which they have donated to Summerwood Community Garden after nominating them as their named charitable organisation for January and February.
Clifton Bidding Bargain page, known locally as CBB, is a Facebook page run by local resident Charlotte Batterham.
It raises money by local residents donating unwanted gifts and items, which are then sold to the highest bidder. All money raised is then donated to local causes.
Charlotte, from the CBB page, told the Clifton Local News: “The page was originally set up short term to help a Clifton school raise some funds for additional equipment.
“But the response was amazing and the donations just kept on coming in.
“I soon realised that the page was not just about raising funds for local groups in the community, but the need to be able to offer our members’ support.
“This is a great way for the community to help and support each other.
“Living costs are high and to be able to offer items and at a great price has helped so many families too.”
Summerwood Community Garden, which was set up in 2008, runs regular sessions and workshops for the local Clifton community.
Their current timetable features an after-school club on Tuesdays, a school session with Farnborough Academy on Wednesdays and a Thursday garden drop-in session where residents can learn garden-to-plate activities from growing vegetables to cooking homegrown produce on their outdoors kitchen.
On Fridays, the garden also runs their volunteer Friday session as well as hosting regular workshops and events for local groups and residents throughout the year.
The donated money has enabled the garden to invest in some much-needed kids’ play equipment, including a new mud kitchen and a beautiful painted glass panel and glass painting workshop by local artist Nicola Halford, which has provided the final touch to their new all-weather shelter.
Summerwood Community Garden is running their popular annual Summer Fete on Saturday 17th August, which is a great day out for all the family with kids activities, stalls, BBQ and local Blue Barrel Cider Bar.
Free holiday sessions take place throughout the holidays on Tuesday and Thursdays.
